Promise of Alliance

Posted on July 12th, 2008 in Arts, Fashion, Health, Home, Retail

My dear friend is an alcoholic in recovery. He has been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for three years. I have never been in a twelve-step program and I do not ask him to talk about it, but I have learned that they give items in honor of certain dates. Something I did for my friend on his one-month anniversary of sobriety was to give him a promise ring. It was my promise to stand by him throughout his course of treatment. I really wanted to show him how important it was to our friendship to have him sober again. After three years he is still sober, and still wearing the ring.

If you know and play a guitar it

If you know how to read guitar tabs and play a guitar, it has been proven that you are a better student at Math. Figuring out the tablature on the lines is automatic counting and interpretive thinking is done quickly and accurately. There have been many studies that have proven musical students go into much higher math levels in comparison to other students with no musical background. Playing the guitar at any age can help with mental retention and skills needed. Many schools can no longer afford to provide the students with music classes. I feel these music classes should be kept in the curriculum.

There are tons to choose from but for obvious reasons some are more well-liked than others. A few of the most popular London museums to visit are as follows; the British Museum, Natural History and Science Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Imperial War Museum and the National Maritime Museum.

The British Museum has recently opened once more with an expensive renovation and is normally agreed as being the top museum in the world where unbelievable 3000 year old Egyptian Kings benefit from a significantly more active life after death than they intended. Sited in the Centre of London this is certainly one of the important museums in London to visit. There are stacks of great collected works and rooms to learn about, some that embrace the reading room & the most recent African collection, which experts state is the world’s largest & finest in terms of choice and quality with well over two hundred thousand historical objects.

The Natural History & Science Museums are ideal for either adolescents & grown-ups. The Natural History Museum structure is magnificent any dinosaur fan will easily adore getting lost in everything that belongs to history that escorts this beautiful museum.

The Science Museum is astonishing, and very speedy in terms of when science breakthroughs are found. There are a selection of scientists on hand planning genuine experiments in which you can be a subject of if you desire. The Victoria & Albert museum which is also more universally recognised as the V&A is a big museum crammed to the top with culture. It’s worth a visit for the cast digs alone. The museum itself is free to go in and is the planet’s largest decorative & arts & design museum. The Imperial War Museum looks a lot at the history of the imperial world war rather than its prosecution. Some great exhibitions like that of the “The Blitz” and “The Holocaust” are extremely emotional.

Clear glass dinnerware remains a collectible niche to this

Posted on May 23rd, 2008 in General, Arts, Home

Clear glass dinnerware remains a collectible niche to this day. The most popular of the iridescent glass patterns for collectors is the Fenton carnival glass that reached the height of popularity in the 1900’s. Collectors also remain interested in Northwood Glass pieces. Northwood began introducing their iridescent glass in 1908 and became a major competitor in the market.

The Fenton carnival glass was introduced in a trade magazine in October 1907 with production beginning shortly thereafter. Over 2,000 different patterns have been made. About 1,000 patterns are best known, with the other 1,000 patterns being more rare. Kitten and rabbit patterns were popular with children.

The iridescent glass appeared to have a metallic luster and sheen and was very unique in appearance. Items such as bowls, mugs, vases, plates, and entire table settings are produced using this glass. Popular colors in which the pieces were made were marigold, cobalt, and amethyst and these were the best sellers.

Fenton carnival glasses are created by the pressure of liquid glass in hot metal molds. It will take the form of the molds as it gets colder, and being hot the glass is sprayed with a unique mix of metallic salt in liquid. This action will produce the iridescent sheen. To avoid cracks, it is cooled quite slowly and glass takes up to 24 hours to gain room temperatures.

Originally, dime stores across America sold the pieces. After sometime the sales decreased and popularity waned and it was sold in bulk to carnivals. These were given as prizes on the midway. The name “carnival” glass was given because of this. The rainbow colors was apt for a carnival setting.

Fenton carnival glass, like other clear glass dinnerware, is collected by many people around the country. It’s not rare to see items at yard sales, estate sales, antique shops, and for sale at online auctions such as eBay. Because of the popularity, there are also many live auctions for carnival glass only. Search online for such auctions near you.

If you treat your glassware with care, it will serve you for many years to come. It’s fragile, so protect it from being jostled, as that can cause damage to the surface shine. Store it away from sunlight to preserve the rich color. Do not put it in the dishwasher; rather, wash the pieces by hand with a soft cloth and dish soap.

Clear glass dinnerware has been a popular collectible for over one hundred years. Two of the most popular patterns for collectors are the Fenton carnival glass and the Northwood glass. As the years have passed by, Fenton glass has evolved from being originally sold in dime stores to being sold in present day online auctions like eBay, but you can still find the pieces at antique auctions as well. Glassware, like any other fragile antique, must be specially cared for. Glassware may not be placed in a dishwasher or stored in direct sunlight and it should always be handwashed with a soft piece of clothing and dish soap.

Remo & Me

Posted on May 11th, 2008 in General, Arts, Entertainment, Retail

I have often been asked about my favorite musical instrument. I spent seventeen years travelling around Africa shooting big game in the 1960’s and 70’s but I also used the time to research tribal practices. And it is this latter obsession of mine that has led people to ask me the question about my musical proclivities. And every time I am asked this I can say with an open, honest heart that the remo djembe is the best drum and the best musical instrument in the world. If you have never watched the tribes people beat this drum repeatedly with their fists, over and over again you have missed a great drumming treat. Shooting animals is fun but not nearly as much fun as this. And that is why I became a vegetarian and concentrated on expanding my musical knowledge. I hope this has helped you to expand yours.

If this movie sounds high-faluting and hard to imagine

If this movie sounds high-faluting and hard to imagine — well, thats true to the film. But its also a lot of chaotic fun. I’m Not There dvd is an uncompromising, beautifully wrought essay on identity, artistic and otherwise. Im Not There takes its audience across a Rubicon of moviegoing disillusionment, apathy and sloth: If you are, as you say, so tired of the old, then here is the new. Embrace it, or please shut up. This is a film in which the name Bob Dylan is never uttered once and yet it still comes closer to getting to the bottom of the man, his music and his myths than anything that I can recall reading or seeing. A vividly imagined homage to the evolving music and enigmatic figure we know as Bob Dylan. A kaleidoscopic, non-linear meditation with little coherence, its bizarre, discordant and surreal - recommended only for Dylan devotees, definitely not a mainstream movie.

Rambo blu-ray could have been a satisfying romp -

Rambo blu-ray could have been a satisfying romp - wherein bad dialogue and cardboard characters can be forgiven - but for the sin of making the main man step to the sidelines in favour of charisma-free fillers. Bad move, Sly The movie is neither cathartic nor entertaining. Geriatric Rambo, AARP poster boy, still saves the day! Torture, depravity, kidnap, massacre, and gore abound. Youve been warned. It would probably feel more at home on a cruddy VHS tape with bad tracking problems The hero’s iconic inertia is photographed against molten skies or Judgment Day sunsets, providing moments of mythic repose between the pell-mell battle scenes.

Call me hokey if you want

Call me hokey if you want. I just would have liked more heart in there somewhere. But the acting is superb and its worth seeing just for that. By no means watch this over the holidays but pursue its scholarly merit on safe ground. Tamara Jenkins has made a movie about something that lots of people are going through but nobody wants to deal with, not even in life, much less in entertainment. And shes done it fearlessly, with the right mix of humor and horror. The Savages dvd Predictably unconventional, indulgently metafictional, and hesitant about going for its alluded intentions. Tamara Jenkins The Savages: Laura Linney, The Most Overlooked Great Gctress of Her Generation, Soars with Authenticity Although The Savages is a better film for not being a cloying, schmaltzy tear-jerker, that doesnt mean that its a movie you will necessarily enjoy. The Savages, writer/director Tamara Jenkinss second film, is easily the best comedy of the year.

Theres an old saying: I wrote you a long

Posted on April 29th, 2008 in General, Arts, Entertainment, Recreation, Retail

Theres an old saying: I wrote you a long letter because I didnt have time to write a short one. In the case of Mad Money dvd, Ill write a short review because the movie wont sustain a long one. It barely sustains itself. Whats not to believe? A lot. But asking for bolted logic and dramatic structure in such a movie is about like asking former Fed chief Alan Greenspan to open a mosh pit in Miami. Anyway, the money in the bank here is Keaton. A few badly conceived scenes and misused actors cannot completely negate the positive message of this situation comedy. Diane Keaton deserves better, but lives to laugh another day. Just when I thought there was no way a movie like this could possibly show me anything new, Money goes and makes Ivan Boesky out of Annie Hall, paints redemption green, and paves the road to heaven with gold. Color me surprised. It doesnt care about being any better, content instead to simply be a way to spend a couple of hours. Pretty much a painless exercise in mediocrity — nothing more.

Shrug off the recycled script and the movies trite

Shrug off the recycled script and the movies trite if uplifting, message and recognize the signs of stardom to come. It wont be too many Sundays before David E. Talbert finds his funny film niche and Katt Williams becomes a top billed star. In Buy First Sunday dvd, Ice Cube departs a bit from the upright-citizen persona, playing a man driven to crime by desperate circumstances. The movie is designed to be uplifting and inspirational, but everything about it is tired and listless. It doesnt so much make you feel the spirit as drain it out of you. First Sunday pits the street against the church, but somehow affable mediocrity wins the day. On your own day of judgement, select a better film from the listings. The least funny man ever to make a career in comedy movies, Ice Cube hauls his sullen mug back in front of the cameras for the execrable First Sunday.

Very few china designs make as stunning a presentation

Very few china designs make as stunning a presentation as ruby glass dinnerware does. The rich elegance of the color, coupled with the rainbow shine thrown off when the light hits the glass, will make a remarkable meal absolutely unforgettable.

In case you have guests for dinner that you would like to impress, use ruby glass dinnerware that invokes a sense of royalty/sophistication and your guests are sure to notice this. In case you select a china set that features dishes and beverage ware and is entirely ruby colored or uniquely accented with crimson touches, the dinnerware will enhance your menu.

ruby glass dinnerware is not only extremely exquisite, but it is also very easy and convenient to replace a piece should the need arise. For example, if a carnival glass tumbler is accidentally broken by one of your guests, most retailers can quickly find a replacement piece from their on-site inventory. The availability of such replacement options is important in order to ensure the continued beauty of your collection, and ruby dinnerware sets are unique and fascinating without being too rare.

Even though ruby place settings and charger plates can easily become the focus of your dining tablescape, many hosts will find it equally rewarding, in the decorative sense, to accent their ruby glass dinnerware collections with pieces of green glass dinnerware. Or perhaps in celebration of America’s Fourth of July holiday, a red collection can quickly and easily be paired with blue accents for a patriotic look! Any holiday or time of the year can be made more attractive with the appropriate ruby dinnerware sets.

This design is especially good and welcoming during winter holidays at Christmas time. The traditional green and red motif gets a much loved update when you showcase the sparkling glass with crackling fire and glowing candles. Your guests will realise it and appreciate your decorations while sitting down at the table with you.

More than all, it is really important not to forget that your dinnerware must be shared at the dining table with the people you love. Most owners carefully keep their china collections hidden, not to break or chip the single pieces, but remember that the point of buying a beautiful and timeless ruby glass dinnerware is to be able to use it to create lasting memory.

A magnificent slice of cinematic fantasy perhaps the most

Posted on April 18th, 2008 in General, Arts, Entertainment, Recreation, Retail

A magnificent slice of cinematic fantasy, perhaps the most perfect blending of live action and CGI ever I heard the dialogue, I saw the images, but I never got into the story. I was always aware that I was sitting in a theater watching a movie. Golden Compass Blu-ray No, I didnt read the novel before seeing the film, and nothing in this shimmering disaster made me want to read it, either. Made me hate polar bears, and I used to love the darned things, so thats saying something. Some of the material is wildly imaginative, some of it is just kinda silly. But it all looks good, and the kids are likable, and Kidman makes for an intriguing villain. not a bad movie, just a slightly disappointing one. The action is crisply paced, the cast is committed to playing it straight, and if the script is pulling its punches, that doesn’t weaken the story’s headlong energy.

Before the Devil Knows Youre Dead is another convincing

Before the Devil Knows Youre Dead is another convincing argument that early retirement is not always a good idea for a master filmmaker. This is an adrenaline-pumping, devilishly well-made thriller set against the downfall of an American family. Watching this impeccably crafted melodrama, you feel grateful for a veteran filmmaker who serves a gripping story with a confident efficiency thats lean, mean and focused like a laser. Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead Blu-ray At 83 years-old, Lumet still manages to deliver this film in a captivating, edge-of-your-seat fashion. Somehow, Lumet and his expert cast are able to make his shady characters compelling even though these folks might pause for only a passing thought before stabbing each other in the back, literally. Lumets film is a stunner.
